The San Diego Poetry Slam is hosting its annual Grand Slam competition in historic Balboa Park at the San Diego Art Institute's Museum of the Living Artist. The Grand Slam will determine who is crowned San Diego Grand Slam Champion for the next year. Rudy Francisco, Ant Black, Simply Kat, Gil SOTU, Jerrica Escoto, Succinct, Taili Mugambi, Viet Mai, Jro, and Deacon Blair (2008 Grand Slam Champion) will perform their best slam poetry in the competition. The top 5 finishers will make up the 2009 Slam team. The team will represent San Diego in West Palm Beach, Florida in August, competing against 83 teams from around the world in the National Poetry Slam. Last year's team ranked in the top 20 of the world in San Diego's return to the national competition. Please come out and help us select the best poets to represent San Diego, as we try to win it all!
